He cut off his eyelids and dropped them into the sea, for he was determined never to sleep again. “I will make an ally of time,” he thought, “force her to yield. For too long mankind has been a victim of time, that will now change. I will never close my eyes again until I see her face to face, confront her true form and master her secrets.”
He stared at himself, wide-eyed, and began to cry.
